Boat hopping in the Bohuslän archipelago Drucken E-Mail

This summer why not go boat hopping in the glorious county of Bohuslän? Make stop-offs for salty swims, restaurant meals with fresh fish and shellfish, enjoy welcoming accommodation and a host of different activities. Simply use the Route Map to select a ferry, destination, time, and experience.

During the winter, the passenger boats in Bohuslän joined a project linking the various tourist boats with regular boat and ferry services. This has resulted in excellent travel opportunities for everyone – tourists as well as local residents – between destinations and easier access to activities from Uddevalla to Strömstad. All the larger (and many of the smaller) communities in Bohuslän have direct ferry services to one or more of the islands in the archipelago: Hamburgsund, Väderöarna, Fjällbacka, Bovallstrand, Hunnebo, Smögen, Lysekil, Fiskebäckskil, Bassholmen, Gullholmen, Käringön, Ljungskile and Uddevalla are only some examples – download the Route Map here. The fine ferries that run between the different harbours carry proud names like M/S Sunningen, Byfjorden, Gustavsberg II, Strömkarlen, Svea and Sotefjorden.

Here are a few suggestions for longer tours and day trips this summer:

The SPA PACKAGE from Uddevalla
Travel on M/S Byfjorden on Tuesdays at 09.00, arriving at Bassholmen at 11.20. Walk around the island, see the traditional boats, and later take M/S Strömkarlen to Ellös at 15.45 to check in to Ellösgården and enjoy a spa treatment. Continue your boat journey the next day at 10.00, to arrive in Lysekil at 12.45, to walk along the promenade and go for a refreshing dip at Pinnevik Beach. At 15.50, hop on M/S Sotefjorden towards Smögen, arriving at 17.10. Spend the night at Smögens Havsbad, enjoy a night-time sauna and the spectacular glow of luminescent organisms in the water. The boat back to Uddevalla departs on Thursday at 15.00 and arrives in Uddevalla at 19.00.

CHILDREN'S PACKAGE from Smögen
Travel on M/S Sotefjorden from Smögen to the wildlife park Nordens Ark on a Tuesday to see the stunning snow leopards and other threatened animal species. Continue to Bohus Malmön where you will spend the night and, the next day, the same boat leaves for Lysekil at 08.30. Visit Havets Hus; an exciting Sea Life Centre and take a seal safari with M/S Strömkarlen in the middle of the day to see these cute creatures in their natural habitat. Stay the night at Strandflickorna's Youth Hostel or one of the other welcoming hotels in Lysekil. On the Thursday, M/S Byfjorden departs Lysekil at 15.00, arriving 16.15, with passengers enjoying large ice creams all round!
